Week 5

Another week has come to a close. We have officially been in class for a whole month! That being said, it is time for our Peace lessons to come to a close. We are now moving on to a new unit of study. This month we will be learning all about The Human Body. We will learn about the skeletal system, muscles and what they do, the brain and nervous system, circulatory system, digestive system, teeth, and nutrition. The children are really excited and so am I. We have a wonderful group of enthusiastic learners this year :)

This Week:
This past week was spent focused on the letter sound "s." We made a spaghetti art project, ate salad, spaghetti and strawberries, learned to write "s," and made special sandwiches for fun food Friday. We, of course, also had music class which is going amazingly well. The children are remembering to bring in their instruments and are in control of using them constructively. Our "band" is sounding better every week! I will post a picture below of the items brought for share day this week. It was sad again with only 5 children participating :( Would everyone do better with an email reminder? Let me know. Today we sent home all work from the walls so make sure and check your child's file folder daily so you don't miss anything. Lastly, Scholastic Book Orders came in this week. It was a beautiful sight! So many new books and so many children excited to read them :)

About our classroom:
I also spent this afternoon redecorating the class for Fall. It looks adorable. I can't wait to get started on all of our Fall art projects and fill the walls again. I also switched out a majority of the Practical Life materials with Fall and Halloween things. The children love new work. You should be hearing all about it on Monday.

Upcoming events:
*This Thursday is our first Family Pizza Night Fundraiser at Shakey's in Upland!
I hope to see you all there. It is a fun opportunity to spend time with everyone outside of the school, fill our bellies and help our school work towards our goal of getting a new play structure outside ;)

*Field Trip to Tanaka Farms Thursday, October 11th! We will be going back to the farm to pick pumpkins and veggies. We will also ride on a tractor, play in a maze made of hay and meet animals at the petting zoo. $12 for children and/or adults that want a pumpkin, $6 for adults that would just like to chaperone.
*I am very sorry that the forms have not gone out yet. The office has been very busy with lots of tours and planning. Ms. Kris said she would put them in the folder by Monday.

A note on snack...
I have had a few questions about quantities and whatnot. The rule is to bring enough for 24 children to eat at morning AND afternoon snack. So that makes 48 portions altogether. We eat the same snack twice a day. Also, when we ask for cups or napkins, etc we need the entire large package so that they can be used over several days versus just one day. Otherwise we will need to ask for paper goods daily which is not very efficient. Thank you all for understanding. You are all doing a great job!

Okay, I am done with my long winded blog... Lol. Once again, thank you for reading and supporting all that we do.

Here is the best part... Photos of the children! :)

Week 4

Hello Friends! I can't believe we are already 4 weeks into the new school year. It has really flown by! This was an eventful week to say the least. We began the week by introducing our new sound of the week "o" and making Octopus art projects. They came out adorable and the children all enjoyed making them. I tend to have artistic children in my class. ;) On Tuesday we learned how to write "o" using the "magic c" technique. Please ask your children what that means. I also made tie dyed shirts with the children in art class. That was a very fun and messy project! On Wednesday, we had a decent amount of share items. I am still hoping for a week of 100% participation on share day. Reminder: no toys allowed! I am still getting a lot of items that aren't relative to the sound of the week and/or on the restricted list of items. :( If you have questions on appropriate share items please ask me. Lastly, Friday did not disappoint! We had another wonderful food project making Octopus out of all beef hot dogs! It was so cute! The children enjoyed saying they ate octopus. Lol. We then ended the morning with Instrument Music Class again. The children had the opportunity to try new instruments this week. They did a great job remembering what they were all named. :) Fun Fun Fun!!!

A couple side notes:
*Book Orders should be in by early next week.

*I (Ms.J) will be out again on Monday due to my baby's health. He was diagnosed with early pneumonia on Wednesday and needs to remain home the entire course of his illness. So my family and I are taking turns being home with him. Thank you for understanding! All kind thoughts and prayers, etc are welcome :)

*School begins promptly at 8:30am. Any children arriving after this time Must enter the classroom on their own without a parent. Please let me know ahead of time if your child will be tardy or absent.

I am having so much fun blogging! I am so eager for each Friday so that I can share all the awesome things we are doing in class with all of you. Thank you for reading!

More Pictures

I'm still getting the hang of this blog business... Apparently a couple of pictures aren't functioning as they should. So here is attempt #2...

Thank you for bearing with me. I promise I will be a pro at this in no time :)

Week 3

It was such a great week! We began our Sound of the Week curriculum with "c." We made cupcake letter c's on Monday, learned to write "c" on Tuesday, and had "c" share day on Wednesday. We also ate many foods that begin with "c" including carrots, cucumbers, crackers, and craisins. We ended the week with a special fun food friday treat of Chocolate Chip Cookies that we made in class :)

The highlight of our week was today during Music Class. We had an amazing level of participation with the instruments that we needed. It has been a long time since I have had almost every parent pitch in to make something so great. The children learned the names of 6 instruments, the sounds they make and how to play them properly. They did wonderful for it being the first class/ introductory lesson. I was very proud of how nicely they treated the instruments and how they focused so well throughout the class. Thank you Everyone for making this such a fantastic experience!

I am also proud to say that everyone came through for us at the last minute to boost our book order total amount to over $150! We were able to get so many new books for the fall :) You guys are great!

Thank you for all that take time to read my emails and blog. I am already getting a lot of positive feedback about the increased amount of communication.

Cheers,
Ms. J
